[Guangxi State-Controlled Information] Media Focus | Guangxi Sugar Companies “Pioneer” in Vietnam: Ten-Thousand-Mu Sugarcane Plantation Becomes a “Test Bed” for China–Vietnam Agricultural Cooperation

Recently, China News Service published an article titled “Guangxi Sugar Companies ‘Pioneer’ in Vietnam: Ten-Thousand-Mu Sugarcane Plantation Becomes a ‘Test Bed’ for China–Vietnam Agricultural Cooperation.” The full text reads as follows: Guangxi Sugar Industry Group Daxin Sugar Co., Ltd. recently reported that, in recent years, the company has turned its attention to neighboring Vietnam. Since launching a pilot project during the 2023/2024 crushing season, the company has steadily advanced the development of sugarcane-growing areas abroad in accordance with the principle of “progressive implementation and annual expansion.”

Vehicles laden with sugar cane from Vietnam’s sugarcane-growing regions have cleared customs and entered the country without a hitch. Starting with a pilot planting of 5,000 mu, the company successfully exported 6,922.34 tons of raw sugarcane during the 2024/2025 crushing season, and has now expanded large-scale cultivation to over 16,000 mu. In just three crushing seasons, the company has established a stable, controllable “second raw-material base” overseas.

Company executives have traveled to sugarcane-growing regions in Vietnam to deliver on-site training in sugarcane cultivation techniques. In light of the specific conditions prevailing in overseas sugarcane areas, the company has vigorously implemented a support strategy that combines “technology transfer” with the introduction of superior varieties and best practices, bringing China’s well-established high-yield, high-sugar sugarcane cultivation technologies directly to Vietnamese fields. By promoting virus-free seedlings, standardized planting methods, and advanced field-management techniques, the company has effectively boosted both per-hectare yields and sugar accumulation in its overseas production bases. This farmer–enterprise linkage model—“cultivating alongside farmers, providing hands-on management assistance, and guaranteeing minimum purchase prices”—not only ensures the high quality of raw materials returned to China but also helps local border residents in Vietnam increase their incomes through sugarcane farming. Moving forward, the company will focus on establishing a streamlined, end-to-end value chain that integrates “cultivation management, cross-border logistics, expedited customs clearance, and direct processing.” By minimizing handling steps and shortening transit times, the company aims to preserve the freshness of the sugarcane to the greatest extent possible, thereby converting the potential advantages of the cross-border industrial chain into tangible product benefits. According to company officials, the 16,000 mu of sugarcane acreage overseas is expected to yield more than 50,000 metric tons of high-quality raw cane under normal growing conditions, serving not only as the company’s “raw-material reservoir” but also as a “pilot demonstration site” for China–Vietnam agricultural cooperation.
