Indonesia’s First Chinese-Invested Medical Device Company Signs Cooperation Agreement with the Cooperation Zone
On July 12, 2019, PT. SOLUSI MEDIKAL APARATUS REGIONAL TEKNIKAL GLOBAL INDONESIA (hereinafter referred to as PT.SMART.G.I.) formally signed a factory lease agreement with the Cooperation Zone. Chen Yuping, Chairman of Prestar Star (Changzhou) Medical Devices Co., Ltd., and the head of the Cooperation Zone attended the signing ceremony.
PT.SMART.G.I. is an Indonesian company invested in by Jiangsu Prisstar Medical Devices Co., Ltd., a Chinese-funded enterprise, and is the first Chinese-invested medical-device company to be approved by the Indonesian government. According to Huang Dong, a director of Prisstar, Indonesia is the world’s fourth-largest healthcare market, with exceptionally promising prospects. At present, medical devices are in severe short supply in Indonesia; PT.SMART.G.I. plans to establish a strong foothold in the country, build its own brand and sales channels, and extend its reach across ASEAN and the countries along the Belt and Road Initiative.
According to available information, the principal shareholder of PT. SMART G.I. is Pristine Star (Changzhou) Medical Devices Co., Ltd., a comprehensive enterprise that integrates research and development, manufacturing, and sales of surgical instruments for abdominal surgery, urology and anorectal surgery, and minimally invasive surgery. Under PT. SMART G’s development plan, Phase I will see the construction of a specialized medical-device manufacturing facility spanning more than 3,000 square meters, including a 1,500-square-meter Class 100,000 cleanroom built to international standards and a 150-square-meter laboratory. Phase II will involve the investment in and construction of a 10,000-square-meter factory complex, with the aim of facilitating the entry of Chinese medical companies—specializing in orthopedic products, medical aesthetics, medical equipment, and medical consumables—into the Indonesian market. PT. SMART G is committed to establishing a premier high-tech medical technology industry platform for China in Indonesia.
Under China’s Belt and Road Initiative, PT. SMART G is a key project through which Prisstar (Changzhou) Medical Devices Co., Ltd. has proactively engaged in BRI development, fostering people-to-people connectivity between China and countries along the Belt and Road, and marking an important step in the international expansion of Chinese medical enterprises.
