National Development and Reform Commission Working Group Conducts Inspection and Research in the Cooperation Zone
On December 18, 2019, a delegation of ten officials, including Li Bin, First-Level Inspector of the Department of International Cooperation of the National Development and Reform Commission, visited the China–Indonesia Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone to conduct a field study on the zone’s operational development and on the investment and trade cooperation between Chinese enterprises and their Indonesian counterparts. The delegation held a symposium at the cooperation zone’s office building and then conducted on-site visits to two resident companies: Xidian Sko Indonesia Co., Ltd. and the Mengniu Indonesia Factory.
During the symposium, relevant staff from the cooperation zone provided the research team with a detailed briefing on the zone’s development and construction, its profitability, its social responsibilities, and the challenges it has encountered in the course of its development. In the context of the national Belt and Road Initiative, they also put forward specific recommendations and suggestions regarding policies and planning for the development of China’s overseas economic and trade cooperation zones.
Li Bin believes that, given the extremely challenging circumstances at the time, it was no easy feat for Guangxi Agricultural Reclamation to muster the courage to venture abroad, invest in the development of industrial parks in Indonesia, and achieve such remarkable results. He stated that the purpose of this visit to Indonesia is to gain first-hand insights into the development challenges faced by the Jakarta–Bandung High-Speed Railway and several major Chinese-invested enterprises operating in Indonesia. The delegation hopes to conduct an in-depth study of the feasibility of developing an economic belt along the Jakarta–Bandung High-Speed Railway corridor and to draw valuable lessons from the symposium held at the cooperation zone. Upon returning, the delegation will carefully collate the views and recommendations of the participating enterprises, submit them to the relevant government authorities, and work to secure supportive policies for overseas industrial parks and Chinese enterprises.
The delegation visiting this time comprises 10 members from multiple organizations, including the Department of International Affairs and the Department of Industry of the National Development and Reform Commission, the Transportation Division of the Department of Economic Construction of the Ministry of Finance, and the International Business Division of China Railway Group, among others.
